(From the sermon of the same title for dates May 16 and 19, 2013)

Blessed are those who serve the Lord for they will reap the fruits of their labors at the appointed time. The promise of God to give us eternal life inspires us to continue serving Him despite of the many sufferings, pains and trials that we experience. However, we cannot deny that some of us feel tired and weary because of these experiences.

Without the sacred teachings that we continue to hear in our gatherings, some of us may have stumble a long time ago just like the others. Through these teachings, we get to know God’s will on us, and guide and lead us to right direction. We also learned that God would never abandon us no matter what happens as long as we continue to cling to Him.

To those who love God, they will also receive love from God.

God has prepared something for those who love Him. (1 Corinthians 2:9) … according as it has been written, “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,” nor has it risen up into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him. (Quoted from Isaiah 64:4)

Long before, God has prepared the right path that we need to walk on so we may never get astray. The path consists of His will and commands that we need to follow for our own good. (Ephesians 2:10) “for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God before prepared that we should walk in them.”

We can read in (Romans 7:12) that the only good and just in God’s eyes are His commands. “So indeed the Law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good.” (Jeremiah 7:23) “But I commanded them this thing, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. Also, Walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it may be well with you.” Notice that when God commanded us to obey His commands, the benefit will not be on God but on us.

God’s commands will lead us until we attain perfection through His mercy and will. (Proverbs 6:23) “For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; and reproofs of instruction are a way of life.”

How do we know that we are following God’s directions?

The Bible clearly states that through God’s house, which is the church of God, we can find God’s directions. The church is the bearer of truth and if we want to obey His will and commands, we have to do them inside his House. (Ezra 7:23) “Whatever is commanded by the God of Heaven, let it be carefully done for the house of the God of Heaven.” (1 Timothy 3:15) “But if I should delay, that you may know how you ought to behave in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.” (Mark 4:11) “And He said to them, To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. But to these, those outside, all things are being given in parables.

God has given everything to the church. Therefore, everyone called unto His church is enriched with all the knowledge, grace and blessings from God. (1 Corinthians 1:4-5) “Give thanks to my God always concerning you for the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus, that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all discourse and all knowledge.”

In addition, everyone called is expected to perform and follow the directions set by God unto His church. This is a solemn promise, a new covenant that is made between God and His children. (Psalms 97:10) “You who love the Lord, hate evil. He keeps the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.”

God expects that we will respond according His pleasure. (Micah 6:8) “O man, He has declared to you what is good. And what does God require of you, but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Do all servants obey God’s commandments?

Not all who were called obey God’s commands. Some failed to fulfill their duties before God. Others just choose the commandments, which they want to follow. One of the most important commandments is to love one another. However, this is one of the most unfulfilled command, which is ironic. We cannot love God if we don’t learn how to love others. (1 John 4:20-21) “If anyone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one not loving his brother whom he has seen, how is he able to love God whom he has not seen? And we have this commandment from Him, that the one who loves God also loves his brother.”

Others became blind and fruitless when it comes to serving the Lord. We are called to bear fruit, that is, to do holy deeds. We have to apply all the teachings and doctrines we have learned, otherwise we are not fulfilling the purpose and the reason of being called as servants of God. (2 Peter 1:7-8) “and with the godliness brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love. For these things being in you, and abounding, they will make you not idle, not unfruitful in the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

If we are walking in light and in truth, and the love of God is within us, we will never stumble and there is no way that we cannot bear fruits of faith. Others became fruitless because they chose to love the world instead of loving their duties and commands. They became slaves of the world and were not able to give glory to God. (1 John 2:9-11) “The one claiming to be in the light, and hating his brother, is in the darkness until now. The one loving his brother rests in the light, and no offense is in him. But the one hating his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness blinded his eyes.”

This is the reason why many stumbled, because they no longer walk in the light. (John 11:9-10) “Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.”

What shall we expect if we continue to remain faithful in following the right directions set by God?

God does not forget all our hardships in fulfilling His tasks and commands. We may not experience good life here on earth, but God’s rewards will give us eternal joy and happiness that we cannot find here on earth. Actually, God is preparing a special place for all who will triumph and endure everything until the end. (John 14:1-3) “Do not let your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. But if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you! And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will receive you to Myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Many people desire to have good and abundant life here on earth, which is not bad actually. However, no matter how hard we try to seek the kind of life we want, we can never experience fulfillment and completeness. God’s design in our lives here on earth is to let us feel that way so that we desire the life that He promised for those who will love Him and obey His will. (Matthew 25:34) “Then the King will say to those on His right, Come, the blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

God’s promise is the fulfillment of everything. (Revelations 21:1-4) “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and the sea no longer is. And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God, having been prepared as a bride, having been adorned for her Husband. And I heard a great voice out of Heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God with men! And He will tabernacle with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. And death shall be no longer, nor mourning, nor outcry, nor will there be pain any more; for the first things passed away.”

The promise is specifically for His children who will remain faithful until the end. Its not enough therefore that we are called to be His servants, its not enough that He loves us, what we have to do is to respond to the same quality of love given to us. (James 2:5) “Hear, my beloved brothers, did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to the ones loving Him?’

It would be better if we follow the advice of Apostle Peter that no matter what we experience in life, whomever we deal with and wherever we are, we shall remain hard working when it comes to serving the Lord. (2 Peter 1:10-11) “Therefore, brothers, rather be diligent to make sure of your calling and election; for doing these things, you will not ever fall. For so will be richly furnished to you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

(From the sermon of the same title for dates May 16 and 19, 2013)

(From the Sermon of the same Title for dates May 9 and 12, 2013)

On the appointed day, God will judge humanity according to their actions. Be it hidden or not, people will come before Jesus Christ, who will be the presiding Judge on that day (2 Timothy 4:8). He alone will execute the judgment, and has the power to save and destroy (James 4:12). And since He is a truthful judge, we cand depend that His judgment is fair and righteous.

When Jesus manifested Himself in the flesh, it is a fact that He was a victim of unfair trial. When Herod and Pilate did not see any wrong doing in Him, they turned to the people, who clamored to set free another criminal instead of Him. They shouted that He must be crucified on the cross. (Luke 23:13-25)

And before He was captured, the high priests planned and sought to catch and kill Him. (Matthew 26:59) “Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death.” One of His disciples became an instrument for His capture, who sold Him for thirty pieces of silver.

All of these scenarios are fulfillment of what was written about Him in the Scriptures. In the end, Christ fulfilled everything and triumphed. (Luke 24:44-46) “And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures; and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day.”

The Bible says in order that a covenant be made, blood must be poured. The blood of Christ was poured to give way for the New Testament, for the forgiveness of sins of those who will become part of His body, which is the church of God. (Hebrews 9:16-17) “Because where there is a testament, there has to be the death of the man who made it. For a testament has effect after death; for what power has it while the man who made it is living?” (Acts 20:28) “Give attention to yourselves, and to all the flock which the Holy Spirit has given into your care, to give food to the church of God, for which he gave his blood.”

What else do we need to learn on what Christ did?

Jesus overcome all the sufferings and pains to set us as an example to follow. God wants us to have faith and patience to overcome all things. (Philippians 2:5-8) “Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus, To whom, though himself in the form of God, it did not seem that to take for oneself was to be like God; But he made himself as nothing, taking the form of a servant, being made like men; And being seen in form as a man, he took the lowest place, and let himself be put to death, even the death of the cross. (1 Peter 2:21) “This is God’s purpose for you: because Jesus himself underwent punishment for you, giving you an example, so that you might go in his footsteps.”

In addition, if He experienced prosecutions, then most likely, we have to face prosecutions too. (John 15:20) “Keep in mind the words I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they were cruel to me, they will be cruel to you; if they kept my words, they will keep yours.”

In all the teachings that we have heard, we are always reminded that all these trials are part of life and service, that we need to overcome. They will come in our lives and we need to pass all of them to receive God’s promise. (1 Peter 4:12-13) These trials are also part of God’s judgment in His house, which is the church of God, so that servants will not become part of the Judgment Day in the future. (1 Peter 4:17) “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?”

What else must we expect to come that we need to overcome?

Aside from the trials that are surely coming, we need to know that God gives punishments to His children. God punishes us so we may learn from our mistakes. We are not perfect and bound to commit errors. These mistakes must be dealt with. And by God’s love and mercy, He gives us punishment so we can turn our ways to Him and away with sins. (1 Corinthians 11:32) “But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”

God’s punishments have great profits on us. It can be painful and agonizing, but in every punishment, there is a lesson that we should learn. Every punishment is a sure way to do holy deeds if we accept it. (Hebrews 12:5-10) “My son, do not make little of the Lord’s punishment, and do not give up hope when you are judged by him; 6 For the Lord sends punishment on his loved ones; everyone whom he takes as his son has experience of his rod. It is for your training that you undergo these things; God is acting to you as a father does to his sons; for what son does not have punishment from his father? But if you have not that punishment of which we all have our part, then you are not true sons, but children of shame. And again, if the fathers of our flesh gave us punishment and had our respect, how much more will we be under the authority of the Father of spirits, and have life? For they truly gave us punishment for a short time, as it seemed good to them; but he does it for our profit, so that we may become holy as he is.”

If God’s punishments are His ways to straighten us and keep us away from sins, then we are fulfilling His purpose on us. However, if punishment comes, and we failed to see its purpose on us, then that punishment will serve as His judgment on us. Eventually, all wrong doers will be taken away from His house, which is the church of God. (Psalms 101:6-8) “My eyes will be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me. He who walks in a perfect way, He will serve me. He who practices deceit won ‘t dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood won’ t be established before my eyes. Morning by morning, I will destroy all the wicked of the land; To cut off all the workers of iniquity from God’s city.”

What do we need to learn on this topic?

If we experience God’s punishments, accept them and let them make our path straight. Without these punishments, we will not be reminded of our mistakes and errors. Besides, we will not experience punishments if we are not commiting any errors. Punishments can be painful, but afterwards it will lead us to righteousness. (Hebrews 12:11) “At the time all punishment seems to be pain and not joy: but after, those who have been trained by it get from it the peace- giving fruit of righteousness.”

Moreover, remember this, even if we remain faithful or we turn away from God, we will always fall in His hands. We cannot escape God. It is better to fall in His hands that forgives and bless, rather than fall from His hands that has the power to put us in eternal torments. (Hebrews 10:30-32) “For we have had experience of him who says, Punishment is mine, I will give reward. And again, The Lord will be judge of his people. We may well go in fear of falling into the hands of the living God. But give thought to the days after you had seen the light, when you went through a great war of troubles.”

According to what we heard, let us not waste every sacrifice we have placed in serving the Lord. We have experienced not a few sufferings and pains because of faith, we need to let God have control over our lives, and let Him lead us to perfection. The devil will not cease to pull us away from God, its his ultimate goal and we need to outsmart him. We need to overcome anything that will surely hinder us from being righteous. And if we think that we are strong enough to do this, we should be careful more because we can fall anytime. (1 Corinthians 10:12) “So let him who seems to himself to be safe go in fear of a fall.”

In conclusion, anything that we experience, be it trial or punishment, its goal is to lead us to perfection and to keep us away from eternal penalty. If we feel that we cannot bear them anymore, let us not loose hope, and don’t forget that God will always guide and lead us to the right path. Don’t ask that these things will be taken away from us, instead ask that we overcome them. (Philippians 4:6-7) “Have no cares; but in everything with prayer and praise put your requests before God. And the peace of God, which is deeper than all knowledge, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

(From the Sermon of the same Title for dates May 9 and 12, 2013)

All things that would possibly happen in our lives were all written in the Scriptures. There is nothing new, and these include joy, sorrows, sufferings, tragedies, failures and triumphs. These are all designed for all human beings created by God.

As servants, we were given the strength to overcome each thing, through His mercy and grace of course. Anything can happen, at an instant, but nothing will be totally difficult for us, because we can do all things with Christ who strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13) And so, even if sufferings are meant to happen like what was written in Genesis 3:19, that we need to suffer to satisfy our needs, we need to overcome, and for sure, with God on our side, we can overcome.

Life indeed is full of troubles (Job 14:1), “As for man, the son of woman, his days are short and full of trouble.” Life doesn’t promise that it will be easy, but we must not lose hope because God will never abandon us.

To give us a clear picture of how troubled life we have here on earth, Solomon wrote this in his writings, (Ecclesiastes 3:1-10) “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.”

Notice in the last verse, God has placed all burdens on us all so we learn from them. God wants us to have the character of Jesus, that even if He suffered, He continued to be obedient as He was setting us an example so we can follow. While Christ suffered, He called on His Father, so that we too, will not rely on our own strength but to always ask for God’s help and mercy. God wants us to remain firm and faithful. (Ecclesiastes 3:14) “I also know that whatever God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken away from it. God has made it this way, so that men will fear him.”

How do we accept all these things that happen to us?

Being faithful is the key, that in everything, we see it as God’s will for us to test our faith in Him. So, we have to expect each trial as God’s way of telling us that we need to show Him our faith in Him is bigger than our troubles. (1 Peter 4:12) “Dear brothers, do not be surprised, as if it was something strange, if your faith is tested as by fire:” These trials and sufferings are clear signs of being a true servant of God. (1 Peter 4:13-14, 16) “But be glad that you are given a part in the pains of Christ; so that at the revelation of his glory you may have great joy. If men say evil things of you because of the name of Christ, happy are you; for the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you. But if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let him give glory to God in this name.”

Sufferings are important so we can eventually give glory to God. We need to accept all of them, and not ask that they might be taken away from us. God wants us to be patient, and be worthy of His name even if we suffer. (Philippians 4:11-12) “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” And as we accept all these things that are designed to happen to us, we now have peace with God, and not complain on anything. (John 16:33) “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

If we endure now, don’t let go of the faith and hope, because God will never let go of us if we do. (Psalms 34:19) “Great are the troubles of the upright: but the Lord takes him safely out of them all.” (Ecclesiastes 7:14) “In the day of wealth have joy, but in the day of evil take thought: God has put the one against the other, so that man may not be certain what will be after him.“

Remember that the amount of suffering that we have now is nothing compared to what God has promised us. (John 16:20-22) “Truly I say to you, You will be weeping and sorrowing, but the world will be glad: you will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. When a woman is about to give birth she has sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she has given birth to the child, the pain is put out of her mind by the joy that a man has come into the world. So you have sorrow now: but I will see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and no one will take away your joy.”

If we endure all things, what is it that we are giving the Lord?

Job’s sufferings are immeasurable. It is beyond what we can imagine. And this made him a man of faith and brought God glory before Satan, his enemy. We can read in Job 2:3, “And the Lord said to the Satan, Have you taken note of my servant Job, for there is no one like him on the earth, a man without sin and upright, fearing God and keeping himself far from evil? and he still keeps his righteousness, though you have been moving me to send destruction on him without cause.”

Job’s faith is overwhelming. He knows that all the sufferings he felt are from God, to test his faith, as he believed that God will not only give us good things, but sufferings and trials too. (Job 2:9-10) “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”

The devil believes that man will give everything for his life, but God knows that a believer like Job will never let go of his faith no matter what happens. God accepted Satan’s challenge, and He proved the Devil was wrong. (Job 2:4) “And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”

Therefore, if we remain faithful amidst the sufferings we have in life, we are actually offering glory to God, which is why God has called us in the church of God. Every one who was called became His sons and daughters, and if we are His faithful children, then we bring honor to Him always. (Hebrews 5:4) “And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.”

Being God’s servant is above all glory. In this life, people take glory from wealth, power, education and other things. They may be called glory but we know that these are all temporary. The glory and honor of being a servant of God is eternal.

What are the things we need to do to continuously give Him glory and honor?

We cannot give honor to our parents simply because we are their children. There are children who are wicked to their parents. Some lost their respect. To avoid this, and so that we may continue to give glory to the almighty God, we have to prove that we are indeed worthy of our calling as His sons and daughters. And we can show it by relentlessly following all His will and commands, which we are called to do so. (Psalms 1:1-2) “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”

One of the things that we need to give importance is our assembly in the congregation. Every gathering should be kept sacred and be attended religiously by all members. Through our worship services, we learn the message of God from time to time, which lead and guide us in every step of the way. (Hebrews 10:25) “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Early Christians showed this every single day of their lives. (Acts 2:46) “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.”

There is Judgment Day.

God appointed the Day of Judgment, to judge the deeds of everyone. (Acts 17:31) “For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”

It is a day that the Lord God has made to give justice for everyone. (Ecclesiastes 12:14) “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” On that day, God will execute judgment upon all, and to convince all, that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds, which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. (Jude 15)

And Jesus Christ will be the supreme Judge on that day. He will execute judgment to all people, the prize of salvation for all who overcome, and the eternal punishment for all sinners. (2 Timothy 4:8) “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Shall we fear the Day of Judgment?

Apostle John says if we our love will be made perfect, then we shall have boldness and confidence in the Day of Judgment. Boldness means without fear, and confidence is self-assurance. Therefore, if we really are serving God with faithfulness in our hearts, then we shall never fear even the Judgment day comes. “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment:” (1 John 4:17)

The Bible said that servants would not be included in the Day of Judgment because judgment has already begun in the house of God, which is the church of God. (1 Peter 4:17) “For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?” The trials and tests that we experience are all indicators of God’s judgment.

Judgment will come first to us so that we would be judges of the world on that day. (1 Corinthians 6:2) Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you not competent to settle trivial suits?

Earlier, Christ says, “Truly I say to you that in the time when all things are made new, and the Son of man is seated in his glory, you who have come after me will be seated on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” (Matthew 19:28) This is a clear sign of the things to come, when all the servants will become judges at the Day of Judgment.

Paul advises not to cast away the confidence that we shall have on the Day of Judgment because it shall give us great rewards. (Hebrew 10:35)

Who are those who will be surely included in the Day of Judgment?

It is important that we know who will surely be included on that day, because it will be a sign and a warning to all of us before it happens. The following are those who will surely be judged according to the Bible:

1. First, those who deliberately sin against God after being given the knowledge of the truth. (Hebrews 10:26-27) For if we do evil on purpose after we have had the knowledge of what is true, there is no more offering for sins, But only a great fear of being judged, and of the fire of wrath which will be the destruction of the haters of God.

2. Second, those who mistreated Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 10:28-29) How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

3. Third, those who turned away from all His teachings and advices as mentioned in Proverbs 1:23-30. “Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord. Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke.

What shall we do now that we know that there is an appointed time of Judgment?

We have learned before that we were not given the right to judge others.

Being a Judge is a sole attribute of God, and we cannot take that attribute because it is His glory and honor. (1 Corinthians 4:5) “For this reason let there be no judging before the time, till the Lord comes, who will make clear the secret things of the dark, and the designs of the heart; and then will every man have his praise from God.”

Paul’s advise coincides with what Jesus taught about judging others. (Matthew 7:1-5) “Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged. For as you have been judging, so you will be judged, and with your measure will it be measured to you. And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother’s eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye? Or how will you say to your brother, Let me take out the grain of dust from your eye, when you yourself have a bit of wood in your eye? You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother’s eye.”

Judging others means great disrespect towards another believer. If we believe that we commit sins from time to time, then we have to put in mind that means we need to understand the sins of others, and not judge them. And if we say that we don’t sin, then we are making God a liar, for all people are sinners. (Romans 14:10) “But you, why do you make yourself your brother’s judge? or again, why have you no respect for your brother? because we will all have to take our place before God as our judge.”

Remember that judging others means judging our own selves. So, we need to be careful. (Romans 2:1) “So you have no reason, whoever you are, for judging: for in judging another you are judging yourself, for you do the same things.”

Instead of judging others, what sort of things we should do?

By judging others, we are not aware that it causes some negative effects to some believers making them stumble or feel weak spiritually. If we always see the mistakes of others, and we don’t see our own faults, then that means love is not in us. (Romans 14:13) “Then let us not be judges of one another any longer: but keep this in mind, that no man is to make it hard for his brother, or give him cause for doubting.”

And if we were the reason behind a believer’s doubt, then it would be better if a big stone will be put in our neck and we will be dropped to the sea. (Mark 9:42) This means we deserve to be judged and punished.

Believers are important to God, and we have no right to hurt them, judge them or mistreat them. We are committing a huge sin if we do. (1 Corinthians 8:11-12) “And so, through your knowledge, you are the cause of destruction to your brother, for whom Christ underwent death. And in this way, doing evil to the brothers, and causing trouble to those whose faith is feeble, you are sinning against Christ.”

(From the Sermon of the same title, dated April 25 and 28, 2013)

Mayroong paghuhukom.

“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment:” (1 John 4:17)

As servants, we know that we should walk according to the path that God has prepared for us even before He created us. (Ephesians 2:10) “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Long before and until now, God has shown how He guided His servants so they will never go astray. David says it is God who guided him and gave new life to his soul. “He gives new life to my soul: he is my guide in the ways of righteousness because of his name.” (Psalms 23:3)

David explains that God’s teachings are His guides. If he did not follow them and did not delight on them, he will not accomplish what God asked of him. “Make me go in the way of your teachings; for they are my delight.” (Psalms 119:35)

Indeed, God promises to lead and guide His faithful so that their ways will be clear to them and those who keep His commandments will find mercy and good faith. (Psalm 25:9-10) “He will be an upright guide to the poor in spirit: he will make his way clear to them. All the ways of the Lord are mercy and good faith for those who keep his agreement and his witness.”

However, many people have taken their own path instead of following God’s ways and righteousness. They did not listen to His words and commands. God set us a path to walk on, but they did not walk on it. This is the reason why many are lost. (Jeremiah 6:16) “The Lord said to his people: “You are standing at the crossroads. So consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths are. Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it. If you do, you will find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not follow it!”

When Christ came, He introduced Himself as the only way, the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). However, people rejected Him too, just like what they did to the early prophets.

When He built the church, to gather all the lost sheep of His flock, and to be an instrument of His salvation, they did not give importance to it. Instead, they prosecute the church and some of its members. One of the prosecutors that time was Saul, as he confessed in Acts 22:4, “And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.”

Before he became Apostle Paul, he was not aware that the way he was attacking is the church of God, which Christ built. (Galatians 1:13) “For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews ‘religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:”

How did God guide and lead His servants so that they can walk to the righteous path?

The Bible illustrated how God lead the Israel out of bondage from Egypt. The Scriptures made use of the symbolic “eagle” to demonstrate God’s love and supervision for them. (Deuteronomy 32:11-12) “Like an eagle teaching its young to fly, catching them safely on its spreading wings, the LORD kept Israel from falling. The LORD alone led his people without the help of a foreign god.”

The word “eagle” is mentioned in the Bible 32 times. The words of God use metaphorical illustrations to give further clarity on God’s guidance over them. In all the birds, the eagle’s attributes can be likened to God’s traits.

A mother eagle throws her baby from her back, and let it fall but never lets it touches the ground, until it learns how to fly. In the same manner, God allows us to experience pains and sufferings, but never let us fall, until we learn how to completely trust Him and stand in our faith. Like the mother eagle, God is always there all the time to guide and lead us until we get the needed strength to do His will. (Deuteronomy 33:26) “People of Israel, no god is like your God, riding in splendor across the sky, riding through the clouds to come to your aid.”

If trials and sufferings are coming to us, put in mind that God is training us so that we learn how to fly like a baby eagle. In addition, like baby eagles, not all of them were able to fly immediately after the first try. We too, can fail at some instances. However, God is always there to help us until we learn how to fly. Until we overcome certain trials, we realize that we can fly like eagles do, and stand up strong in our faith.

To be able to do this, of course God must help us. God gave us teachers and Pastors to feed us the knowledge and understanding that we need to overcome all things. They are sent to guide and lead us to the right path according to God’s righteousness. (Jeremiah 3:15)

How did the Bible further explain God’s guidance?

God’s leadership and guidance are for all. Ever since He created all things, God did not take away His guidance in all His creations. He never stopped.

There are things that move according to their natural predispositions. God had created these natural laws so that they would fulfill their purposes. Nature, the universe, the earth that we live in, and the other things that God created have certain rules on their own that we cannot avoid nor oppose. (Job 26: 7- 8; 37: 10- 12)

In addition, we should give emphasis on the fact that God give more focus on His servants. In the old Scriptures, God showed His love and compassion to His people, Israel. He cared for them like a Pastor to his flock. (Psalms 77:20)

God did not only guide and lead them. God also protected them. (Psalms 23:2-3) “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

Does God give guidance to bad people?

In Job 21:30, we can read that God lead all wicked people and reserved them unto the day of destruction. “That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.”

The guidance given to servants is different from the guidance given to all wicked people. God will surely lead them to eternal punishment, unless, of course they repent and receive God’s forgiveness them.

This is similar to what is written in Psalms 125:5, which says, (As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity.)

One thing is sure, that if God will lead them to eternal punishment, then there is no chance that they can escape from it.

What do we need to learn from this topic?

The message is clear. If we continue to serve God with all righteousness and truthfulness, then we are following the right path.

For those who turn away from His words and commands, they will surely suffer and receive God’s curse. And even if they want to escape, God will let them do the things that are not right, so they will not escape from His wrath. (Romans 1:28-31) “And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right, being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, perfidious, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful.

Paul also explains this in 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, so that all those who do not believe the truth, but delight in unrighteousness, might be condemned.”

Solomon’s advice can avoid God’s wrath and punishment. (Proverbs 4:16-27) “For they do not sleep, except when they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall. For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day. The way of the wicked is as darkness; they know not at what they stumble. My son, listen to my words; bow down your ear to my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to all his flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from you a wicked mouth, and devious lips put far from you. Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left; remove your foot from evil.”

Repent and come to God while we have time, while we have the chance.

Sa King James Version ay ganito ang ating mababasa, “That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.”

(As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the Lord shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity.)
