People will Seek God, but will not Find Him

People worship different gods. They don’t know that they worship false gods. False gods don’t only mean images, pictures and statues. They can be anything or someone that people value most in their lives more than God. False gods can be the wealth, vices, pleasures, businesses, honor, and love ones. They seek them and venerate them as if these can save them in times of need.

Unfortunate but true, there are people who don’t get to know the one and only true God. Some people just pretend to know the real God and they say they also serve God but their hearts and minds are far from His will, from His commandments. From the very start, we all knew that there is only ONE and TRUE GOD in the Holy Scriptures. He is the creator, the God of Israel, who freed them from the bondage of slavery. He is the God worshiped by Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the sons of Israel.

Isa 40:26-28  Let your eyes be lifted up on high, and see: who has made these? He who sends out their numbered army: who has knowledge of all their names: by whose great strength, because he is strong in power, all of them are in their places. Why do you say, O Jacob, such words as these, O Israel, The Lord’s eyes are not on my way, and my God gives no attention to my cause? Have you no knowledge of it? has it not come to your ears? The eternal God, the Lord, the Maker of the ends of the earth, is never feeble or tired; there is no searching out of his wisdom.

God wants us to Seek Him

From the start, there are some people of Israel who tried to seek the Lord. Many of them have been separated from God because of the false gods that they served and worshiped.  But not all of them were lost, some of them seek the way of God. 2Ch 11:16 And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

And Israel entered into a covenant with God - 2Ch 15:12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;

What is the importance of Seeking God?

What is God’s promise to those who will seek Him?

Job 8:5-6  If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

This is what God had promised to those who will seek Him. But there is a criteria in seeking God, it must be thorough, the seeker must have perseverance. And the seeker must turn away from the wickedness of this world, he will clean himself in front of God.

In our time now, how can we faithfully seek the Lord God?

If there is an authority that can explain how to faithfully seek God, it is the Bible who can explain everything. The Holy Scriptures describes the true and only One God that we must serve, recognize  and worship. And if we know God, then it will be much easier for us to find Him.

Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

2Ti 3:15-17  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Therefore, through searching the Holy Scriptures, we may know God, we may find God. But how can people know and find God through the Scriptures if they don’t have time to do it? Many people had been busy with many things in their lives like business, personal pleasure, work and the likes. These things are not bad at all. It is not bad to work and have business, but the problem lies when people became too much busy that they don’t have time for spiritual matters.

And so, if an extra-ordinary thing happens around us, they wonder about it. They ask for reasons why these things happen? Usually, people who don’t know the answer are the busiest people. They know nothing about God, they know nothing about God’s plans and actions.

Considering the following occurrences like, the increasing poverty, troubles in all the part of the world, the downfall of the economies of the many nations, even the powerful ones, proliferation of incurable diseases, tragedies struck the world almost every time, calamities continue to happen, religions sprout from one place to another. Everything were all written long before we were born and is happening now to remind us that the words of God are true. But many people don’t know about it.

People will not Find Him

While we have time to seek the Lord. while He still gives us chance to find Him, let us act according to faith. Let us not assume that all the things in life are forever and without end.

We know that all the things that we see will end soon. We cannot trust anything that we see. If there are things that we can trust, they are the things that we don’t see, the spiritual things, those are the things that were said to be forever and without end.

And if there is an appropriate time to seek Him, it is not later or tomorrow, but NOW. 2Co 6:1-2  We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

People usually call and seek God during times of need. When they suffer from poverty they call God. When earthquake, typhoons and other disasters come, they call upon His name. But they don’t even bother to look for Him and remember Him when these things are not happening.

God turned away from Israel before because they chose to serve other gods. And when some of them tried to seek the Lord, they did not find HIM. They did not find Him because even if they seek Him, they continue to dwell with their gods and follow all the abominations in the sight of the Lord. These are the reasons why their sacrifices and offerings were not accepted by God.

Hos 5:5-6  And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them. They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.

Why is it became easy for God to turn away from Israel?

God has given them so many chances. He sent prophets and they killed them. God called upon them, but they did not hear Him. Just like today, the words of God around the world are being preached, but the people of the world continue to ignore them. Now, is it injustice to God to turn away from His people and from the people of the present world?

Pro 1:24-30  Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

The Call

Now is the time to seek God, now is the time to seek Him. Let us grab this opportunity while we have chance.  Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

And if there is something that we can follow as a model, they are those who are being said by the prophet Isaiah, Isa 58:2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.

And if we found God, don’t think that we stop from there. Having found the Lord doesn’t mean the end of the search, because it is only the beginning. It is the start of a fruitful life, serving the Lord.  1Th 2:9 For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

God solemnly promised. that if seek Him and found Him, and continually serve Him with all our heart and mind, He will never forget all the labour we did for His glory and His name. This is what all the faithful will receive from Him until the end.

Jos 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

This is a strict warning to all people and to His servants. If we don’t wish to be punished in the end, follow His will. Let us leave all our personal desires and come to seek and find Him while we have the chance. For if we do this, surely we will inherit the promised eternal life.

Zep 2:2-3  Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you. Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.
