God has the attribute of being the most gracious especially to His servants and followers. He is full of compassion, a God who is long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. Psa 86:15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, andgracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
Primarily, God has given us life and strength and anything that we possess which were all acquired by our skills, intelligence, strength are considered to be blessings from God. We cannot deny that fact that anything we possess are all blessings from the gracious God. Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being…
Because of the resources given to us, we were able to acquire things in our lives. The daily needs are among the blessings we cannot deny that came from God. Although we use our strength and talents to acquire material things, it doesn’t mean they are all obtained alone because of our own strength and skills. We receive our needs, because God gave them to us. And these blessings are all enough proof that we should always be thankful to God.
And since God knows our needs, we shouldn’t worry what to eat, drink and what to wear. God will provide everything for us. But God will only provide if we work and seek for His blessings. We eat if we use our strength, we drink if we use our hands, and we acquire clothing and homes if we work for it. That’s how God blesses His servants and followers. He gives us seeds and not fruits. Mat 6:31-32 “So do not start worrying: ‘Where will my food come from? or my drink? or my clothes?’ (These are the things the pagans are always concerned about.) Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things.
One of the blessings we must be thankful for is the time when we are called by God to serve Him. All His servants and followers are called and brought to His church. This is one of the blessings we should give importance as a follower of His will. Above all the things we received and continue to acquire here on earth, His calling should be put on the top of our list when it comes to God’s great blessings.
Paul says, Brothers and sisters, consider what you were when God called you to be Christians. Not many of you were wise from a human point of view. You were not in powerful positions or in the upper social classes. (1 Cor. 1:26) The Bible called this God’s grace of calling. Rom 1:5-7 Through him we have received God’s kindness and the privilege of being apostles who bring people from every nation to the obedience that is associated with faith. This is for the honor of his name. You are among those who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.) To everyone in Rome whom God loves and has called to be his holy people…
Paul was called by God to be an Apostle of His church. 1Co 1:1-2 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
This blessing of being called by God to be His servant is one that we shouldn’t ignore. It should be given full importance and should not be treated as if we did not receive it from God. We should not forget how lucky we are being chosen by God to serve and do His will. We should not forget also how much we are being blessed by God.
Deu 8:11-14(a) Be careful that you don’t forget the LORD your God. Don’t fail to obey his commands, rules, and laws that I’m giving you today. You will eat all you want. You will build nice houses and live in them. Your herds and flocks, silver and gold, and everything else you have will increase. When this happens, be careful that you don’t become arrogant and forget the LORD your God…
Among all the blessings coming from God, which one is the most important?
We all know that all blessings from God, great or small, should be recognized and be given importance. 2Co 6:1-2 Since we are God’s coworkers, we urge you not to let God’s kindness be wasted on you. God says, “At the right time I heard you. On the day of salvation I helped you.” Listen, now is God’s acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation!
This is the most important blessing that we can ever receive from God, that is, to treat the day of His calling as the day of our salvation. All who were called and become members of His church were blessed. Act 2:47- “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
The day of His calling is said to be a day of His salvation. The salvation here is not the full salvation that we all wanting to receive. We still need to serve, persevere and do His will to achieve the full salvation. It is called salvation because anyone who was called is save from his former life that became wicked because of the absence of the knowledge of the will of God. The forgiveness of sins, is another blessing and a sign that a servant receive God’s blessings. Anyone who receives this blessing should not ignore it but present himself as a living testimony of God’s blessings. He should not ignore anything and take for granted whatever he receive from God especially God’s calling and anything that deals with faith.
1Co 4:7 For who made you better than your brother? or what have you that has not been given to you? but if it has been given to you, what cause have you for pride, as if it had not been given to you?
In spite of this truth, why do some pretend that they did not receive anything from God?
Not all who received God’s blessing gave importance to it. Some of them can be seen as if they did not receive anything at all. Some of them ignored and have taken for granted because they only have little or have no faith at all. Paul said that the faith and truth we received from God are enough for our salvation, something that we should give emphasis in our lives.
1Co 15:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. This blessing from God can save us only if we truly believe and trust in Him. But if we only believe in vain, will we be worthy of salvation?
Eph 4:20-24 That was not what you learned about Christ! You certainly heard about him, and as his followers you were taught the truth that is in Jesus. So get rid of your old self, which made you live as you used to—the old self that was being destroyed by its deceitful desires. Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God’s likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.
There are some who really did not learn anything, and this can be seen if they did not show any changes in their lives. Those who really learned can be manifested by the changes they show in their lives, from their former wicked self, they are now living according to what God wills.
There are some who actually received the blessings of His calling but deny them by refusing to listen to God’s words and advises. Zec 7:11-12 “But my people stubbornly refused to listen. They closed their minds and made their hearts as hard as rock. Because they would not listen to the teaching which I sent through the prophets who lived long ago, I became very angry.
The Bible prophesied that many will turn away from the truth and teachings of God, they will turn away from these precious blessings of God.
2Ti 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not take the true teaching; but, moved by their desires, they will get for themselves a great number of teachers for the pleasure of hearing them; And shutting their ears to what is true, will be turned away to belief in foolish stories.
The Bible preaches that we should continue to work with fear, quietly doing the will of God until we achieve the completion of our salvation.
Php 2:12-14 So then, dear friends, as you always obeyed me when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey me now while I am away from you. Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation, because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing…
The full obedience of the will of God is a sign that we do not neglect nor ignore God’s blessings, especially His calling to each and everyone of us.
