Living in the Past is Wrong

Past, present and future.

These are all related.

We all have past lives. This is the part of our lives that makes our present. Meanwhile, the present life is what will shape our future. So, basically they are all connected.

Many people are driven by their past lives and experiences. This is okay if the experiences help us to build a better present life. But if our lives are driven in the past, and affects our present life and makes it miserable instead of inspiring it, then this is a big problem for us.

Apostle Paul mentions,  Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead (Php 3:13)

Paul’s past experiences are not that good. He is the number one prosecutor of the church of God. He admits that He made the lives of the Christians miserable and full of sufferings. He considers himself as a sinful man. But when Christ called Him to be an Apostle of the church (1 Corinthians 1: 1-2), everything changed.

Like what He said, he forgets what lies behind him.

He never lets his past life affects his present life. And that made him a good servant and an outstanding Apostle of Christ.

God specializes in giving people a fresh start

We deserve to have a fresh start.

If at some point of our lives we made mistakes,  it’s okay. There will always be a time to make a fresh start. Starting all over again doesn’t mean, starting from the beginning. We can’t get back our lives back, but we can always make a brand new one. A brand new life is what God wants us to have. Forgetting and turning away from our sinful life, that is.

Speaking about the bad past experiences, we may have such ugly ones, but to live it out until our present life is not right. We are making our lives hard to live if we do that. Past is past, things in the past should not affect our present, instead these experiences should help us to be a better person and a good servant of God.

We are all products of past, but we don’t have to be a prisoner of it.

Have you ever met a person who always live in the past and can’t let go of it?

Some people are full of resentments or bitterness because of their past experiences. This people continue to recite over and over again their anger and guilt. But what happens to these kind of people? They are just making their lives miserable and unhealthy. These are the people who are always angry with the people around them. These are the people who have no contentment in what they have.

They don’t realize that those who hurt them in the past can not hurt them anymore in the present. But it continues to hurt them because they continue to hold on to the pains and resentments.

We are just hurting our selves if we continue to be bitter. To worry ourselves with such bitterness is foolishness and useless.

The best thing to do is to ask God to give us strength to let go of the past.

If we live our lives at the present according to what God desires on us, then we are making a better future for us.
