Bearing Fruits

(John 15:16) You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

As a branch, we can bear fruits when we are connected to the tree. Only those who abide God’s will and commands can bring many fruits. The fruits referred here are good works and these can be done only with the intercession of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit, we can’t do anything. It is the force and power that makes us move according to God’s grace. Indeed, we can’t do anything without God. (John 15:5)  I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

We can bear good fruits if we produce labors of publicly preaching the gospel, for being a pastor of the church of God, leading the brethren to spiritual development, and overcoming all the trials that come our ways. These all bring glory and honor to God as the one who called us to bear fruits worthy of His name.

We, as being connected to the vine that gives life, have been given the greatest chance to produce fruits and we are to show that there are changes in our lives as a result of our being connected to Him. We can’t say we are bearing good fruits if we still live according to our old ways of life. A change of ways is necessary to bear good fruits.

And as we are being rejected in this world, we try to bring God’s glory through our works. (1 Pet 2:4-5)  For having been drawn to Him, a living Stone, indeed rejected by men, but elect, precious with God;  you also as living stones are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Each member of the church was called to bring fruit. We may not all be called in the frontlines of evangelizing as the Apostles, but if God has called and hosen us, we have to know that there is a responsibility of producing fruit within the extent or range of our place in His church that we all glorify God.
