It is important to be prepared in all things. If circumstances come, and we are prepared, we can always face anything. Being ready or prepared is not a trait of many people. It can only be seen for those who have experience many things in their lives.
For those who study the Words of God, we cannot leave out the idea of studying about the preparedness of the servants of God. It is a sign of being an intelligent servant, and as we would like to know, there are many things we have to prepared on, and this will be the topic of our discussion.
Before we proceed with the preparedness of the servants of God, first we need to understand how the Bible explained the commandments of God and as well as the people who obey them.
According to the Bible, all the commandments of God are righteous (Psalm 119:172). The commandments are not heavy and burdensome. The commandments become heavy because the doer doesn’t want to turn away from certain things in this life. The result, they find the law of God burdensome. 1Jn 5:3 For our love for God means that we obey his commands. And his commands are not too hard for us…
Therefore, it is important to know the will and commandments of God because to love God means to obey His commands. Knowing the will of God is an important step in serving Him. Eph 5:17 So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants.
Some people find the will and commandments of God difficult to understand because they lack the perseverance to study them. But in reality, the Bible says it is clear to those who has insight, it is plain for those who are well informed. Proverbs 8:8-9 Everything I say is true; nothing is false or misleading. To those with insight, it is all clear; to the well-informed, it is all plain.
People who understand the will of God are very lucky, because they can made use of them as their guide and light on their path. They will never be misled because the words of God are their guide. They are lucky especially when the words of God have been deeply rooted within themselves, which make their faith, hope and trust to God stronger than ever. Col 2:7 Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving.
In this case, when a servant of God trust and hope God more than anything in this life, he will be likened to a tree planted near the water stream, “But I will bless the person who puts his trust in me. He is like a tree growing near a stream and sending out roots to the water. It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit. (Jer 17:7 )
Aside from having great faith and hope, what does God expect to His servants who understand His will and commands?
If there are people whom God expect to see lots of changes in their lives, these people are those who have learned through His words. He expects them to turn away from their former lives living in sin, and they will purify and consecrate themselves before God. Dan 12:10 Many people will be purified. Those who are wicked will not understand but will go on being wicked; only those who are wise will understand.
And as the Bible says, By mercy and good faith evil-doing is taken away: and by the fear of the Lord men are turned away from evil. (Prov. 16:6)
Aside from having fear and turning away from sins, God also expects His servants to be always prepared and ready to give love to others, especially to the faithfuls. 1Pe 1:22 Now that by your obedience to the truth you have purified yourselves and have come to have a sincere love for other believers, love one another earnestly with all your heart.
And anyone who becomes God’s servant has to remove his own righteousness. He will not follow anymore his own will when serving God. He will follow what God wants him to do. Php 3:9 and be completely united with him. I no longer have a righteousness of my own, the kind that is gained by obeying the Law. I now have the righteousness that is given through faith in Christ, the righteousness that comes from God and is based on faith.
But God also wants His servants to be prepared in performing their obligations. 1Ti 4:15 Practice these things and devote yourself to them, in order that your progress may be seen by all. Being prepared in performing their duties and responsibilities to God takes a lot of practice.
Why do the servants of God need to be prepared? What are the things they must prepare for?
As we said, being prepared is important in the many aspects of our lives. In the spiritual part, we have to be prepared also for anything that may come in our lives. There are a lot of certain things that will surely come and if we are not prepared, we can be caught surprised and empty handed.
An example of these things that we know will surely come is death. We will never know the time of our death, but surely it will come to us. This is one of the things we should be ready for, especially we know we are not sure of what will happen in the future . Jas 4:14-15 You don’t even know what your life tomorrow will be! You are like a puff of smoke, which appears for a moment and then disappears. What you should say is this: “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.”
We should not boast about tomorrow, we are not sure of anything in this life. Pro 27:1 Never boast about tomorrow. You don’t know what will happen between now and then.
Only God knows what will happen in the future and tomorrow may come or not to us. He decides if we will still be living or it will be the end of our lives. We never know.
Aside from this, what else do we need to prepare for?
One of the things we need to prepare for is about the great day of the Lord’s wrath. This is an important day for God, for this day is the day of His revenge for all those who did ungodly things in His sight. Zep 1:14 The great day of the LORD is near—very near and coming fast! That day will be bitter, for even the bravest soldiers will cry out in despair!… Zep 1:18 On the day when the LORD shows his fury, not even all their silver and gold will save them. The whole earth will be destroyed by the fire of his anger. He will put an end—a sudden end—to everyone who lives on earth.
What does the Bible say about this day?
Isa 13:9-11 The day of the LORD is coming—that cruel day of his fierce anger and fury. The earth will be made a wilderness, and every sinner will be destroyed. Every star and every constellation will stop shining, the sun will be dark when it rises, and the moon will give no light. The LORD says, “I will bring disaster on the earth and punish all wicked people for their sins. I will humble everyone who is proud and punish everyone who is arrogant and cruel.
Are all people will be included on the day of His anger?
Not all people will be included on this day of wrath. Servants of God need not to be afraid nor terrified about it, because God will save those people who have prepared themselves, consecrated and purified themselves before God. Isa 51:6 Look up at the heavens; look at the earth! The heavens will disappear like smoke; the earth will wear out like old clothing, and all its people will die like flies. But the deliverance I bring will last forever; my victory will be final.
In what ways should we prepare ourselves to escape the wrath of God?
We all know that the days are wicked, everyday is full of uncertainty, and because of this, we should grab every opportunity that is given to us to do good deeds. Every day is a chance to do godly things in the sight of God.
What are these things we should take advantage of?
All the things that pertain to serving God are righteous in front of God. These are the things we should look on for and take advantage of. We should give emphasis and importance in these things.
It is important that we should be watchful always as told by Christ. Luk 21:36 But keep watch at all times with prayer, that you may be strong enough to come through all these things and take your place before the Son of man.
Take note that an important element of preparation is our prayers. Prayer is a direct communication to God. The relationship between us and God should be improving and strong and to be able to do this, we need constant communication with God. 1Pe 4:7 But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer…
So, it is really important to constantly talk with God, not only through prayers, but through listening to His words, which we do every time we attend worship services. If prayers are our way of expressing our feelings, appreciations and thanksgiving to God, listening to His words are His ways to express and relay to us His desires for each and everyone of us. Heb 10:25 We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing. Instead, we must continue to encourage each other even more as we see the day of the Lord coming.
And lastly, whatever it is that is godly in the sight of God, if it is in the power of our hands to do them, we should not withhold it. We should not withhold anything that is good in the sight of God. (Proverbs 3: 27)
