The word perfect would mean without blemish, flawless or faultless. In serving God, it is important that we show perfection because God commanded us to be perfect in His sight. God is perfect and He wants us to be perfect also. (Matthew 5: 4) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

For most people, being perfect is impossible, but in God we can be perfect through His mercy and grace. They might say that nobody is perfect but in God’s sight, there were some who became perfect according to His standards. And we too, can become perfect because it is God who will make us perfect.

Noah is righteous and perfect in God’s eyes because He walked with God, and obeyed all the commandments that God gave him. (Genesis 6: 9, 22) These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Job is perfect and righteous according to the Bible. God challenged satan that Job will remain faithful to Him whatever happens. (Job 1:8, 22) And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

When God commanded Abraham to be perfect, he obeyed it and Jesus testified about it. (Genesis 17:1) And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. (John 8:39) They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

When King Ezekiah was sick, he asked God to remember all his good deeds and how he walked righteously before God. And because he walked according to God’s will, his prayers were answered. (2 Kings 20:3) I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Are all servants of God turned out to be righteous and perfect in God’s eyes?

Not all who served God became perfect and righteous. There were some who showed wickedness and unfaithfulness, and the result, they were all cast away from God’s nation. Those who do wicked things will not stand before God, and nether will God allow them to continue serving Him. (Psalms 37: 37-38) Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

Apostle Paul gave proof regarding this so called servants of God who were also called to be perfect unto the church of God but eventually turned out to be transgressors of God’s laws. They showed wickedness among themselves and among the brethren of the church. Even if they knew that wrong doers have no place in the congregation of God, they continue to affect the normal and holy lives of the faithful. (1 Corinthians 6: 8, 11) Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (Galatians 3:3) Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Apostle Peter also wrote about the same type of servants who did fellowships and feast together with the rest of the brethren, but unfortunately they were all revealed. (2 Peter 2: 13-14) And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

The Bible assures that indeed they will all be revealed. Their wickedness will expose them in the open and they cannot hide before God. God will never allow them to continue if they will not show any remorse and repentance. (Proverbs 26:26) Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. (2 Timothy 3:9) But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

In the end they will all come to destruction and endless punishment. (Matthew 24: 48-51) But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

How can we be perfect in serving the Lord?

No one has the ability to be perfect in our selves alone. Without God’s grace and mercy we cannot achieve anything and we cannot be perfect. We can only be perfect if God will allow us. And of course we can be perfect because it is His will. God will make us perfect not according to man’s standards but according to His. (Psalms 18: 32) It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

(Hebrews 13: 20-21) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

What did GOD do so we can be perfect in serving Him?

God gave His people (servants) ministers and pastors to lead them in every step of the way. They will never be misled because these leaders will guide them spiritually and remind them about His commands and will. They will be equipped with the knowledge and understanding to do all what God has desired them to do. The leaders meanwhile will also warn them if they are moving in the wrong path. (Jeremiah 23: 4) And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD. (Jeremiah 3:15) And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Through listening, servants will receive God’s instructions and if they will accept it wholeheartedly, there is now way that they cannot achieve perfection as God expects them to be. His words will be our primary guide in all manners of our lives, and will serve as the light and lamp upon our feet so we will be guided anywhere we go and at anything we do. (Ephesians 4: 11-12) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Each servant will be fully equipped and prepared to do all what God has designed to attain perfection; unless of course, we became tired of following and doing all His instructions. (Colossians 1: 9-10) For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; (2 Timothy 3: 15-17) And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

But it will not be enough to possess wisdom and understanding to be perfect. We should possess faith because it will push us to act and obey all His commands without hesitations or doubts. If faith is not whole, then obedience will not be perfect. If there is even little doubt, we cannot be perfect in our services. And if faith is fruitless, there will be no good works, there will be no holiness and no perfection will be attained.

But what will be the most important element that will make our faith work to achieve perfection?

Having faith is only a part of attaining perfection. We should also possess “love.” If there is love, there is nothing hard or difficult to do. There will be no hindrance that we cannot overcome if we have love. If there is love, all the things that we are afraid to do before will not make us fearful. Love will make us courageous to face anything. (1 John 4: 18) There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Paul advises us to put on charity, which is love. (Colossians 3:14) And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. Love unites us with God. And if we really love God above all else, all His commandments will become easy for us to do.

Besides possessing faith and love, what do we need to do more?

Paul says if we serve GOD, we must try to do it with wholeheartedly. It should always come through our hearts. We serve God not because others can see what we are doing. We serve God because we know that He is looking inside our hearts. (Ephesians 6: 6) Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

Being perfect and doing holy things in the sight of God is not done only during our worship assemblies. Holiness is a way of life and it should be done in all manners of our lives. Whatever we do, think, and say, and even what we are planning to do in the future should always involve faith and the love of God. (1 Peter 1: 15-16) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

To be able to fully do all these things, we should turn away from all forms of wickedness because it will only ruin what we are trying to achieve, that is, to be perfect in Gods eyes. A true perfect servant turns away from evil. (Job 1:1) There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
